In November of 1987, our rescue members received a report of a missing 7 year old boy. Our members, along with law enforcement, searched all night long with temperatures dropping down into the low twenties without success. The boy walked out on us own the next morning without and injuries. He had slept in hay bales with his pet dogs during the night. We realized how lucky we were to have the search turn out successful and that we needed to improve our skills as searchers. Working with local law enforcement, we started obtaining specialized training in search and rescue. As a result, Randolph County Search and Rescue Team was formed in 1988 as a speciality team from within Ash-Rand Rescue Squad. The Search and Rescue Team has become one of the most utilized Search Teams in the state. Receiving national recognition in 1994 from the National Association of Search and Rescue, the search team continues to assist local and state law enforcement agencies in lost person cases. We welcome anyone interested in becoming a member of the Search Team to email us at
